Greek Poker Cup IV Loutraki Trip Report

Hello hello!

I didn't think the time would come where I'd have to write a trip report for visiting my home country, but here it is: My Loutraki trip report!

A couple of weeks ago PokerStars organized the Greek Poker Cup IV at Casino Loutraki. Of course I had to be there so as soon as I heard about it I booked my tickets and made travelling arrangements. Ι was looking forward to this trip for various reasons. First, I never miss an opportunity to go back to Greece. Secondly, it's a series of tournaments organized by PokerStars so it's bound to be good. Thirdly and most importantly I really wanted to see up close what the greek poker community is like. Normally when I travel to poker destinations abroad I'm always looking out for Greek players. If I hear someone speaking in Greek I always go and say hi. So was I excited to participate in a tournament full of Greek people? Hell yeah!

I arrived at the Club Hotel Casino Loutraki on Thursday 19th of February, the first day of the Greek Poker Cup series. After a quick check-in, I went up to my room. I was welcomed by a very cozy and modern space and a wonderful sea view.

I was registered at day 1A, so I went to the casino to get my ticket. I arrived there early but there was a massive line which made me lose the entire first level of the tournament. On the positive side that means that there was a really good turnout for the series and I had the opportunity to chat with other players while standing in line.

The main event

The main event was a €550 NLHE tournament that got over 500 participants in total. I arrived at the table having lost some chips already. Not a big deal though, as playing super deep is not really my thing. I said hello at the players and took a seat.

Some years ago there was a tv show in Greece similar to the X-Factor, where people sang and then got grades for their performance from a panel of judges. The grades would go up to 10, with 10 being the holy grail that only a great singer would get. That show got really popular mainly cause of one judge that would praise the participants, give them all sorts of compliments like "I was mesmerized by your voice" only to end up with "Very well, I give you three!!!" and a big smile on his face.

If I could describe the main event in a phrase, it would be "Very well, I give you three!". I literally got all the combinations of 3 imaginable, apart of course from 33 or A3 (those are what we call "too good to be true"). J3o seemed to be a favorite that day. After a while it seemed to be so consistent that I was laughing by myself every time I saw a three in my cards and then folded. It's very possible that other players at my table thought I was crazy. Oh well!

The defining pot of the tourney was when I was holding KJo on a 9-7-T-Q-9 board. My opponent showed pocket sevens and my straight was not enough against his full house. That was a pot of 15k chips (starting stack was 20k) so I got a significant hit there.

I lost a bit later, at the 5th level of the tourney when I raised UTG with AKo. I got two calls, from the player on my left and the Big Blind. The flop came K-T-Q with two cards of the same suit. I bet half the pot and got raised by the UTG+1. The Big Blind folded and I re-raised all-in. The opponent flipped JT. The turn was a 4, but unfortunately the river was a ten that got me eliminated.

The side events

I wasn't exactly thrilled about losing at the main event, but I had the side events as comfort. I played them all, apart from the PLO one. That means I played a €220 NLHE, a 2-day €330 NLHE and a €165 NLHE turbo. I had high hopes for the turbo in particular, but in the end I didn't cash in any of the side events. Then again after the amazing start I had at MTTs this year and considering this isn't my format, I guess I can't complain. Plus, it was super fun to sit at tables full of greek players! I know this may sound mundane to most of you, but the immigrant in me really appreciated the chance to play poker with fellow Greeks! And I know I'm probably not the most appropriate person to say this cause I'm not an MTT expert, but I found the level of poker to be quite good, which made me even more proud of my countrymen!

Okay, I'm more of an online player so I haven't been to many places to play live poker. Yet I can tell you that Casino Loutraki is a very nice space. The room where the poker series was held was super spacious and pleasant. There was free bottled water for all the players and a cafeteria just outside the poker room in case you wanted to grab a coffee or hang out.

The hotel itself is modern, super clean (something I value a lot in hotels) and has a spa. I didn't have time to try out the spa, but I heard it's pretty great (maybe I'll pay it a visit next time around). But with the greek sea right at your feet why would you go to the spa anyway?

The slang

I was having dinner with one of the players I met at the tournament when the subject of greek poker slang came up. I was explaining to John that I find it difficult to translate my blog posts into Greek cause I'm missing a lot of the vocabulary. I've been taught how to play poker by a Portuguese and I mostly talk with people regarding poker in English. So if you think about it, it's normal that I don't know how to say most of that stuff in Greek.

Sure enough, while we were having dinner close to the tournament area one of John's friends came up to us and started explaining how he lost. I kid you not, he was talking in Greek yet I understood less than 10% of what he said. If someone asked me to explain how the guy lost I'd be speechless! Needless to say, John spent the next hour teaching me how to talk poker in Greek. That skill will definitely come in handy!

The community

I must admit I was excited but at the same time a bit skeptical on my way to the Greek Poker Cup. I've never been on a poker-related trip without André before and apart from George Kapalas I hardly knew any of the Greek poker players personally. So here's a heartfelt thank you to all of the people that came and talked to me during the Greek Poker Cup and made me feel welcome. You guys are awesome! From playing poker at the tables to having breakfast in the morning, there was a positive energy all around which definitely contributed in making this trip a great experience for me! I felt like I was meeting old friends and I can't wait until our paths cross again. Thank you!

Greek Poker Cup IV Λουτράκι Αναφορά Ταξιδιού

Δεν φανταζόμουν ότι θα έρθει η ώρα που θα πρέπει να γράψω μια αναφορά ταξιδιού επειδή επισκέφτηκα την πατρίδα μου αλλά να τη: Η αναφορά ταξιδιού μου για το Λουτράκι!

Πριν δύο περίπου εβδομάδες η PokerStars οργάνωσε το Greek Poker Cup IV στο καζίνο Λουτρακίου. Φυσικά και έπρεπε να είμαι παρούσα οπότε με το που το άκουσα έκλεισα κατευθείαν εισιτήρια και σχεδίασα το ταξίδι μου. Ανυπομονούσα γι'αυτό το ταξίδι για διάφορους λόγους. Πρώτον, δεν χάνω ποτέ την ευκαιρία να ταξιδέψω στην Ελλάδα. Δεύτερον, πρόκειται για μια σειρά τουρνουά που οργανώνει η PokerStars οπότε σίγουρα θα είναι καλά. Τρίτον και κυριότερον ήθελα πολύ να δω από κοντά πως είναι η ελληνική κοινότητα του πόκερ. Συνήθως όταν ταξιδεύω σε ποκερικούς προορισμούς στο εξωτερικό ψάχνω πάντα για Έλληνες παίκτες. Αν ακούσω κάποιον να μιλάει ελληνικά, πηγαίνω πάντα και λέω γεια. Αν ήμουνα ενθουσιασμένη που θα συμμετείχα σ'ένα τουρνουά γεμάτο από Έλληνες παίκτες; Εννοείται πως ναι!

Η είσοδος για το Καζίνο Λουτράκι

Έφτασα στο Club Hotel Casino Loutraki την Πέμπτη 19 Φεβρουαρίου, την πρώτη μέρα του Greek Poker Cup. Μετά από ένα γρήγορο check-in, πήγα στο δωμάτιό μου. Με καλωσόρισε ένας φιλόξενος και μοντέρνος χώρος με μια υπέροχη θέα στη θάλασσα.

Είχα γραφτεί στην ημέρα 1Α, οπότε πήγα στο καζίνο για να πάρω το εισιτήριό μου. Έφτασα εκεί νωρίς, αλλά υπήρχε μια τεράστια ουρά που είχε ως αποτέλεσμα να χάσω όλο το πρώτο level του τουρνουά. Από την θετική πλευρά πάντως αυτό σήμαινε μεγάλη ανταπόκριση των παικτών για το Greek Poker Cup και είχα την ευκαιρία να μιλήσω με άλλους παίκτες ενώ περιμέναμε τη σειρά μας.

Το main event

Το main event ήταν ένα €550 NLHE τουρνουά που συγκέντρωσε συνολικά πάνω από 500 συμμετέχοντες. Έφτασα στο τραπέζι έχοντας ήδη χάσει μερικές μάρκες. Όχι ότι έγινε και κάτι βέβαια, μιας και το να παίζω με πάρα πολλά blinds δεν είναι το φόρτε μου. Χαιρέτησα τους παίκτες και πήγα στη θέση μου.

Θυμάστε εκείνη την εκπομπή τύπου Χ-Factor που υπήρχε στην ελληνική τηλεόραση πριν από κάποια χρόνια; Οι διάφοροι συμμετέχοντες πήγαιναν και τραγουδούσαν και η κριτική επιτροπή τους έδινε βαθμολογία. Η συγκεκριμένη εκπομπή είχε γίνει γνωστή πιστεύω κυρίως λόγω του Τριανταφυλλίδη, ενός από τους κριτές, ο οποίος αφού έκανε ένα σωρό κοπλιμέντα στους τραγουδιστές μετά τους έλεγε "Πολύ ωραία, σου βάζω τρία!". Και τους κοίταζε και με ένα ειλικρινές χαμόγελο λες και μόλις τους είχε δώσει 100 με άριστα το 10.

Αν μπορούσα να περιγράψω το τουρνουά σε μια φράση, θα ήταν "Πολύ ωραία, σου βάζω τρία!". Μου ήρθαν κυριολεκτικά όλοι οι συνδυασμοί με τρία που σας περνάνε από το μυαλό (εκτός φυσικά από 33 και Α3 (αυτοί είναι αυτό που λέμε "πολύ καλό για να είναι αληθινό"). Το αγαπημένο φύλλο της ημέρας φαινόταν να είναι ο βαλές τρία. Μετά από λίγο έμοιαζε τόσο σταθερό που γέλαγα μόνη μου κάθε φορά που κοίταγα τα φύλλα μου, έβλεπα ένα τριάρι και μετά πήγαινα πάσο. Είναι πολύ πιθανό οι υπόλοιποι παίκτες στο τραπέζι μου να νόμιζαν ότι είμαι τρελή. Τι να κάνω όμως κι εγώ η έρημη, να κλαίω;

Η καθοριστική πάσα του τουρνουά ήταν όταν κρατούσα ΚJ σε ένα board 9-7-T-Q-9. Ο αντίπαλός μου έδειξε εφτάρια και η κέντα μου δεν ήταν αρκετή ενάντια στο full house του. Αυτό ήταν ένα pot για 15 χιλιάδες μάρκες (ξεκινούσαμε με 20 χιλιάδες) οπότε εκεί δέχτηκα ένα γερό χτύπημα.

Έχασα λίγο αργότερα, στο 5ο level του τουρνουά όταν έκανα raise UTG με AKo. Δέχτηκα δύο calls, από τον παίκτη στα αριστερά μου και από το Big Blind. Το flop ήρθε K-T-Q με δύο ομόχρωμα. Πόνταρα το μισό pot και ο UTG+1 έκανε raise. To Big Blind πήγε πάσο και εγώ πήγα all-in. Ο αντίπαλός μου κράταγε JT. Το turn ήταν 4, αλλά δυστυχώς στο river ήρθε ένα δεκάρι και αποκλείστηκα.

Τα side events

Δεν είχα τρελαθεί κιόλας απ'τη χαρά μου που έχασα στο main event αλλά είχα τα side events για παρηγοριά. Τα έπαιξα όλα, εκτός από το PLO. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι έπαιξα ένα €220 NLHE, ένα διήμερο  €330 NLHE και ένα €165 NLHE turbo. Είχα πολλές ελπίδες ειδικά για το turbo, αλλά τελικά δεν μπήκα στα χρηματικά έπαθλα σε κανένα από τα side events. Από την άλλη πάλι μετά την φοβερή αρχή που είχα στα ΜΤΤs στην αρχή της φετινής χρονιάς και λαμβάνοντας υπόψιν ότι αυτό δεν είναι το format μου, νομίζω ότι δεν μπορώ να παραπονιέμαι. Άσε που ήταν πολύ διασκεδαστικό το να κάθομαι σε τραπέζια γεμάτα από Έλληνες παίκτες. Το ξέρω ότι στους περισσότερους από εσάς αυτό ίσως ακούγεται τετριμμένο, αλλά η μετανάστρια μέσα μου εκτίμησε ιδιαιτέρως την ευκαιρία να παίξει πόκερ με άλλους Έλληνες! Και ξέρω ότι δεν είμαι το καταλληλότερο άτομο να το πω γιατί δεν ειδικεύομαι στα ΜΤΤ αλλά βρήκα το επίπεδο του πόκερ να είναι καλό, πράγμα που με έκανε ακόμα πιο περήφανη για τους συμπατριώτες μου!

Το καζίνο και το ξενοδοχείο

Εντάξει, εγώ είμαι κυρίως online παίκτρια οπότε δεν έχω πάει και σε πολλά μέρη για να παίξω πόκερ ζωντανά. Παρόλα αυτά μπορώ να σας πω ότι το καζίνο του Λουτρακίου είναι ένας πολύ ωραίος χώρος. Η αίθουσα στην οποία διοργανώθηκε το τουρνουά ήταν ιδιαίτερα ευρύχωρη και ευχάριστη. Υπήρχε δωρεάν εμφιαλωμένο νερό για όλους τους συμμετέχοντες και μια καφετέρια ακριβώς έξω από τον χώρο του τουρνουά σε περίπτωση που ήθελες να πάρεις ένα καφέ στο χέρι ή να πας να χαλαρώσεις.

Το ίδιο το ξενοδοχείο είναι μοντέρνο, πεντακάθαρο (κάτι που εγώ προσωπικά μετράω πολύ σ'ένα ξενοδοχείο) και έχει spa. Δεν πρόλαβα να δοκιμάσω το spa, αλλά άκουσα ότι είναι πολύ καλό (ίσως να το επισκεφτώ την επόμενη φορά). Αλλά με την ελληνική θάλασσα στα πόδια σου γιατί να θες να πας στο spa;

Έτρωγα βραδινό με έναν από τους παίκτες που γνώρισα στο τουρνουά όταν η κουβέντα πήγε στην ελληνική αργκό του πόκερ. Εξηγούσα στο Γιάννη ότι το βρίσκω λίγο δύσκολο να μεταφράσω τα posts μου στα ελληνικά γιατί μου λείπει πολύ από το λεξιλόγιο. Μου έμαθε να παίζω πόκερ ένας Πορτογάλος και όταν συζητάω για πόκερ με άλλους είναι κυρίως στα αγγλικά. Οπότε αν το καλοσκεφτείς, είναι λογικό που δεν ξέρω να λέω τα περισσότερα απ'αυτά στα ελληνικά.

Και κάπου εκεί, μιας και βρισκόμασταν κοντά στο χώρο όπου γινόταν το τουρνουά έρχεται ένας από τους φίλους του Γιάννη για να του εξηγήσει πως έχασε. Δεν σας κάνω πλάκα όταν σας λέω ότι ο άνθρωπος μιλούσε ελληνικά αλλά εγώ κατάλαβα λιγότερο από το 10% από αυτά που είπε. Αν με ρώταγε κάποιος τρίτος να εξηγήσω πως έχασε, δεν θα ήξερα τι να απαντήσω! Περιττό να σας πω ότι ο Γιάννης πέρασε την επόμενη ώρα εξηγώντας μου πως να μιλάω για πόκερ στα ελληνικά. Δεν ήξερα καν τι πάει να πει "πάσα". Φανταστείτε! Αυτή η ικανότητα σίγουρα θα μου χρησιμεύσει στο μέλλον!

Η κοινότητα

Οφείλω να ομολογήσω ότι εκτός από ενθουσιασμένη ήμουν και αρκετά σκεπτική όταν πήγαινα στο Greek Poker Cup. Ποτέ πριν δεν είχα κάνει κάποιο ταξίδι σχετικό με πόκερ χωρίς τον Αντρέ και εκτός από τον Γιώργο Καπάλα δεν ήξερα κανέναν από τους Έλληνες παίκτες προσωπικά. Οπότε θέλω να ευχαριστήσω θερμά όλους όσους ήρθαν και μου μίλησαν κατά τη διάρκεια του Greek Poker Cup και με έκαναν να νιώσω ευπρόσδεκτη. Είστε όλοι φοβεροί! Από το όταν έπαιξα πόκερ στα τραπέζια μέχρι όταν έπαιρνα το πρωινό μου, υπήρχε γενικά μια θετική ενέργεια που σίγουρα συνέβαλε στο να κάνει αυτό το ταξίδι μια εξαιρετική εμπειρία για μένα! Ένιωσα λες και συναντούσα παλιούς μου φίλους και ανυπομονώ να ξανασυναντηθούν οι δρόμοι μας. Σας ευχαριστώ πολύ!

2014 Year Review and Plans for 2015

Hi everyone! 

This year review is coming a bit late since we're already in February. But you know what they say... Better late than never! So let's start!

2014 was a great year for me not only on a professional but also on a personal level. As most of you probably know, my boyfriend André Coimbra proposed to me last summer. We've been together for many years and we've lived together for most of them so getting married won't really change much in our daily lives. Still, we both wanted to get married somewhere along the way and the time has come!

Poker-wise there's not much more I could have asked out of 2014. The first and biggest thing that happened was that I got accepted in PokerStars Team Pro Online. I was ecstatic and couldn't believe my good fortune. Being a member of Team Pro Online has given me a lot of opportunities to travel to places, meet people and do stuff that otherwise I wouldn't do. All in all, it has been an awesome experience so far!

At the tables things went quite well too. Here's my graph for the year:

There's a bit of a downswing towards the end of the year as you can see, so things could have ended a little bit better, but that's okay. I finished almost 20k up pre-rakeback which is pretty good by my standards! :D

As far as VPPs go, I mentioned around November last year that I wanted to go for 300k points. Unfortunately there were a couple of unexpected things that came up in December and threw me off an already tight schedule. Add to that the fact that I was going through the above mentioned downswing (around 8k, ouch!) and you get why I gave up on that goal. I did feel a little bit disappointed with myself that I didn't make it to 300k VPPs. There were definitely some spots during 2014 where I could have worked harder and make it happen. But on the other hand, I finished the year with about 255k VPPs which is more than I've ever done before in a year. As long as I keep improving, I'm happy.

Another improvement that happened during 2014 was at the stakes I was playing. I started by playing mostly $12 and $18 satellites in January. Towards the end of the year I was a solid regular at the mid-stakes (having left the $12s completely behind) taking shots at high stakes.

As for 2015? I can only hope it will be as good as 2014 (or better!). I kind of had a late start this year because André and I spent about two weeks at the Bahamas during the PCA. When we came back, there was a lot to do (and I'm not just referring to the piles of laundry). Since we have a wedding coming up, there's a lot to organize. Finding a church, choosing a place for the wedding reception, hiring a photographer, discovering the prettiest wedding dress... There are so many things to be done! I spent two full weeks occupying myself with wedding stuff which felt like a full-time job. And trust me when I say I'm not nearly done!

I basically blinked, and it was February already... But before I could throw myself back in the poker action, there was one more change to be made... My working space! André decided to move to an office with other poker players. That pretty much left me working all alone at home. It didn't take long before I decided that it wasn't going to work. I felt so counter-productive slouching around in my pjs all day long. Procrastination became my new best friend. I really didn't think that André going to work someplace else would affect me so much, but it did. The result was... That I decided to move to that office too!

For now I'm there on a trial basis... I've been working at home for over a year, so there's a lot of stuff I need to change in my daily routine because of this move. But I want to think of it as a positive change. There are 7 more players at that working space other than André and myself. That's pretty cool cause it's a new dynamic for me. I've worked in corporate offices with a lot of people at the same space and I've played poker at home with just my boyfriend. Playing poker in a room full of people that are doing the same is something I haven't done before. Sounds exciting!

As for my plans for 2015... I'm going to stick to the hyper-turbo satellites. The road got a bit bumpy last November for all of us hyper-turbians, but fortunately PokerStars decided to roll back the changes they made. So nothing changed really and I'll go on playing my favorite format!

I would also like to go for at least 300k VPPs, something that I missed last year. I'll probably aim for even higher than that, but at the same time I'm trying to be realistic. We have our wedding coming up, which involves not only preparations but also a honey-moon that is going to take some time.

Finally, I want to publish posts more often at this blog. It's something I included in my new year resolutions in 2014 as well, but I didn't do as well as I would have liked to. Being a member of Team Pro Online, I started being a lot more active on my social media (twitter and facebook), which sometimes was to the detriment of my blog. This year I wanna do better blog-wise!

Αυτή η ανακεφαλαίωση του έτους έρχεται κάπως αργά δεδομένου ότι έχουμε ήδη μπει στον Φεβρουάριο. Αλλά όπως λένε... Κάλλιο αργά παρά ποτέ! Ξεκινάμε!

Το 2014 ήταν μια εξαιρετική χρονιά για μένα όχι μόνο σε επαγγελματικό αλλά και σε προσωπικό επίπεδο. Όπως μάλλον ήδη γνωρίζετε, ο φίλος μου ο André Coimbra μου έκανε πρόταση γάμου το περασμένο καλοκαίρι. Είμαστε μαζί εδώ και πολλά χρόνια και τα περισσότερα απ' αυτά συζούμε κιόλας οπότε το να παντρευτούμε δεν θα αλλάξει και πολλά στην καθημερινότητά μας. Παρόλα αυτά, θέλαμε και οι δύο να παντρευτούμε κάποια στιγμή και ήρθε η ώρα!

Σχετικά με το πόκερ δε θα μπορούσα να έχω ζητήσει τίποτα καλύτερο από το 2014. Το πρώτο και μεγαλύτερο πράγμα που έγινε ήταν ότι με δέχτηκαν στην ομάδα PokerStars Team Pro Online. Ήμουν απίστευτα χαρούμενη και δεν μπορούσα να πιστέψω την καλή μου τύχη. Το να είμαι μέλος της ομάδας Team Pro Online μου έδωσε την ευκαιρία να ταξιδέψω σε μέρη, να γνωρίσω άτομα και να κάνω πράγματα που διαφορετικά δεν θα έκανα. Συνοψίζοντας, μέχρι στιγμής είναι μια φοβερή εμπειρία!

Τα πράγματα πήγαν καλά και στα τραπέζια. Ορίστε η γραφική παράσταση ολόκληρου του έτους:

Έχει μια μικρή κατρακύλα προς το τέλος της χρονιάς όπως μπορείτε να δείτε, οπότε τα πράγματα θα μπορούσαν να έχουν λήξει και λίγο καλύτερα, αλλά δεν πειράζει. Τελείωσα τη χρονιά με κέρδος σχεδόν 20 χιλιάδες πριν το rakeback που είναι ένα καλό αποτέλεσμα με τα δικά μου standards. :D

Όσον αφορά τα VPPs, είχα αναφέρει γύρω στο Νοέμβριο πέρσι ότι ήθελα να πάω για τους 300 χιλιάδες πόντους. Δυστυχώς έτυχαν μερικές αναποδιές τον Δεκέμβριο που δεν είχα προβλέψει και με έβγαλαν εκτός του ήδη πολύ πιεσμένου προγράμματός μου. Αν προσθέσουμε και το γεγονός ότι πέρναγα από το downswing που ανέφερα παραπάνω (γύρω στις 8 χιλιάδες μείον, άουτς!) τότε καταλαβαίνετε γιατί εγκατέλειψα τον στόχο μου. Ένιωσα λιγάκι απογοητευμένη με τον εαυτό μου που δεν έφτασα τα 300 χιλιάδες VPPs. Σίγουρα υπήρξαν φορές μέσα στο 2014 που θα μπορούσα να έχω δουλέψει παραπάνω για να τα καταφέρω. Αλλά από την άλλη, στο τέλος του χρόνου είχα συγκεντρώσει 255 χιλιάδες πόντους που είναι περισσότερο από κάθε προηγούμενη χρονιά. Όσο καταφέρνω και βελτιώνομαι, είμαι χαρούμενη.

Μια άλλη βελτίωση που υπήρξε κατά το 2014 ήταν στα stakes που έπαιζα. Ξεκίνησα παίζοντας κυρίως τραπέζια των $12 και $18 τον Γενάρη. Προς το τέλος της χρονιάς ήμουν τακτική παίκτρια των μεσαίων stakes (έχοντας αφήσει πίσω για τα καλά τα $12) και έκανα και κάποιες προσπάθειες στα υψηλά stakes.

Όσο για το 2015; Ελπίζω να είναι κι αυτό τόσο καλό όσο το 2014 (ή ακόμα καλύτερο!). Φέτος ξεκίνησα λίγο αργά γιατί ο André κι εγώ περάσαμε δύο περίπου εβδομάδες στις Μπαχάμες κατά τη διάρκεια του PCA. Όταν γυρίσαμε, είχα πολλά να κάνω (και δεν αναφέρομαι μόνο στο βουνό από μπουγάδα). Μιας και έχουμε το γάμο φέτος, έχουμε πολλά να οργανώσουμε. Πρέπει να βρούμε εκκλησία, να επιλέξουμε το χώρο της δεξίωσης, να προσλάβουμε ένα φωτογράφο, να διαλέξουμε το ωραιότερο νυφικό... Είναι τόσα πολλά αυτά που πρέπει να γίνουν! Πέρασα δύο εβδομάδες γεμάτες με γαμήλιες ετοιμασίες, κάτι που έμοιαζε με full-time δουλειά. Και πιστέψτε με όταν σας λέω ότι ούτε που κοντεύω να τελειώσω!

Βασικά ο Γενάρης πέρασε πριν προλάβω να πω "κύμινο" και είμαστε ήδη στον Φλεβάρη... Αλλά πριν ριχτώ στα ποκερικά τραπέζια υπήρχε κι άλλη μια αλλαγή που έπρεπε να γίνει... Ο εργασιακός μου χώρος! Ο André αποφάσισε να μετακομίσει σ'ένα γραφείο με άλλους παίκτες πόκερ. Αυτό ουσιαστικά σήμαινε ότι εγώ θα έμενα να δουλεύω μόνη μου στο σπίτι. Δεν πέρασε και πολύς χρόνος μέχρι να συνειδητοποιήσω ότι κάτι τέτοιο δεν ήταν εφικτό. Ένιωθα τόσο αντιπαραγωγική να πηγαινοέρχομαι με τις πυτζάμες μου μες στο σπίτι όλη μέρα. Η αναβολή και η βαρεμάρα έγιναν οι καλύτερες φίλες μου. Πραγματικά δεν πίστευα ότι το να πάει ο André να δουλέψει σε άλλο χώρο θα μ'επηρέαζε τόσο πολύ, κι όμως έγινε. Το αποτέλεσμα ήταν... Ότι αποφάσισα να μετακομίσω κι εγώ σ'αυτό το γραφείο!

Προς το παρόν είμαι εκεί σε δοκιμαστική φάση... Δούλευα από το σπίτι για πάνω από ένα χρόνο οπότε είναι πολλά αυτά που πρέπει ν'αλλάξω στην καθημερινότητά μου εξαιτίας αυτής της μετακόμισης. Υπάρχουν άλλοι 7 παίκτες στο συγκεκριμένο χώρο εκτός από τον André κι εμένα, πράγμα αρκετά ενδιαφέρον γιατί είναι κάτι καινούριο για μένα. Έχω δουλέψει σε εταιρικά γραφεία με πολύ κόσμο στον ίδιο χώρο και έχω παίξει πόκερ από το σπίτι με μόνο το φίλο μου για παρέα. Το να παίζω πόκερ σ'ένα δωμάτιο γεμάτο με άτομα που κάνουν το ίδιο είναι κάτι που δεν έχω ξανακάνει. Μου ακούγεται πολύ ωραίο σαν ιδέα!

Όσο για τα σχέδιά μου για το 2015... Θα παραμείνω στα hyper-turbo satellites. Τα πράγματα δυσκόλεψαν λίγο για μας τους λάτρεις των hypers γύρω στο Νοέμβρη, αλλά ευτυχώς η PokerStars αποφάσισε να αποκαταστήσει τις αλλαγές που έκανε. Οπότε δεν άλλαξε τίποτα και θα συνεχίσω να παίζω το αγαπημένο μου format!

Θα ήθελα επίσης να φτάσω τουλάχιστον τις 300 χιλιάδες VPPs, κάτι που δεν κατάφερα πέρσι. Μάλλον θα στοχεύσω για παραπάνω, αλλά ταυτόχρονα προσπαθώ να είμαι και ρεαλίστρια. Έχουμε το γάμο μας φέτος, πράγμα που θα χρειαστεί χρόνο όχι μόνο για τις ετοιμασίες αλλά και για το ταξίδι του μέλιτος.

Τέλος, θέλω να ποστάρω πιο συχνά εδώ στο μπλογκ. Αυτό είναι κάτι που είχα συμπεριλάβει στους στόχους μου και το 2014, αλλά δεν πήγε τόσο καλά όσο θα ήθελα. Ως μέλος της Team Pro Online άρχισα να είμαι πολύ πιο ενεργή στα social media όπως το twitter και το facebook, πράγμα που ορισμένες φορές ήταν εις βάρος του μπλογκ μου. Φέτος θέλω να τα πάω καλύτερα όσον αφορά το μπλογκ!

Bahamas PCA 2015 Trip Report

Hello and happy new year!

I guess I'm a bit late on updating you guys with my news... In December I made a trip to Greece to celebrate my 30th birthday with my family and spent the rest of the month like most other online poker players... Grinding the VPPs! I still owe you an overview of 2014 and a post with my goals for 2015 but those things will have to wait cause... What better way is there to start the year than a trip report?

Hello Bahamas!

As you probably know, January is the month of the PCA! This was my third visit to the Bahamas and Paradise Island (that's the name of the little island where the Atlantis Resort is built). I was of course super excited about this trip cause meeting with the rest of the Team PokerStars Pro Online members is always a fun experience. Considering that we're all scattered across the planet and live not only in different countries but also different continents, the PCA is a unique opportunity for all of us to meet in one place.

Andre and I arrived at the Bahamas on the 6th of January, after a really really long trip and a one-night stop in New York. This year we stayed at the Cove which is, in my opinion, the nicest among the Atlantis towers.

The next day was the day of the Team Online meetings. It was great to meet all of the Team members, see old friends again, get to know the new members in person and mess a bit with Alex's new haircut. He made some excuses about how they lost his luggage at the airport and he didn't have any hair gel but between you and me, I think he was just trying out a new look and tried to salvage it any way he could when he realized it wasn't working.

Anyway, back to the meetings! We had a lot of interesting speakers this year including Barry Carter from PokerStrategy.com and Jared Tendler, author of the "Mental Game of Poker". It should have been a long day (we were there from 9.00 to 17.00) but it literally flew by and was over before I knew it. I guess that's what always happens when you're doing something that you really enjoy.

That night the whole Team Online met at the Bahamian Club for dinner. Delicious food and great company! What more can you ask for a night to be awesome?

The next days were not as fully packed with activities, although you'll never get bored while you're at the PCA. Take for example the HU4ROLLZ promotion that we did and were basically giving free money to people! That was pretty fun and I think everyone enjoyed it, not only the people that were challenging us but the Team Online members as well.

Last year I played live poker for the first time at the PCA. It was just a $120 sng so no big tournament by any means but I made it in the money and eliminated my boyfriend in the process so I have fond memories of the experience. This year, I thought I should take it to the next level and play some of the PCA's side events. Here are the ones I played:

Event #10 $2.200 NLH Turbo "Double Bubble"

From what I got, this was a new kind of tourney for the PCA scene. I really enjoyed playing it, I think the structure was nice and it was a fun event. The top 50% of the players would win $2.200 (they basically get their buy-in back) and among those the top 8% would get additional prizes. That created a very interesting dynamic: everyone was playing super tight till the first bubble burst but then they all started going crazy for the second bubble as from that point and on it's similar to a "winner takes all" tournament.

I managed to make it into the money, but I was in a bad shape. The table's chipleader had been terrorizing everybody with his big stack and I was down to 6BBs. I got it it with 99s vs KJo but unfortunately I lost. Still, it was an ITM finish so not too shabby for someone who's inexperienced in live tournaments. Also, considering this was an MTT which is not my area of expertise I felt pretty comfortable while playing it thanks to the turbo structure.

Event #13 $2.200 NLH Turbo Bounty

Having enjoyed the "Double Bubble" tournament so much, I decided to hit the poker room again the next day. I decided to play the bounty tournament where each player had a $1k bounty on their heads. Of course things can't always go my way and that one didn't go very well. It went pretty horribly actually, I don't recall another tournament where I've been so card dead.

I spoke to one of my opponents from that table a couple of days after the tourney was over and he told me that he thought I looked scary. Lol! He also thought I was either getting really bad cards or was the tightest players he'd ever encountered. Hum, I'll go with option number one on this one! I remember I got dealt J2s at some point and I almost got emotional: "Ooooh look, a suited hand! So pretty!" and "Oh my god, this deck has face cards too!". I folded it, but it was the best hand I'd gotten in quite some time so it cost me a bit. You get the picture. That tournament ended in no glory. Not only I got eliminated before the bubble was anywhere within the horizon, but I also didn't pick up any bounties along the way.

Event #29 $600 NLH Women's Event

Although not intentionally, it seems like I had saved the best one for the end. The ladies' event! This is a tournament that I've been flirting with for the last couple of years that I've been going to the Bahamas, but I never played it before because it's towards the end of the PCA and we were always leaving too soon. This year however I was determined to participate, so I made our travel plans accordingly.

I registered 10 minutes late (had to get a coffee first!) and was sent to Fatima Moreira de Melo's table. Which by the way was surrounded by cameras. Pressure on! The first hand I was dealt in the tourney was pocket 99s, which allowed me to get a nice pot. The day was starting out in a promising way...

I had around the average stack for quite a long time when an interesting situation came up. I got pocket 77s on the Small Blind. The Button min-raised and I called. So did the Big Blind. The flop came 734 rainbow, giving me top set. I was the first one talking so I checked and so did the other two girls behind me. The turn was a Queen. I made a small bet, the Big Blind called and the Button moved all-in. I shoved too and to my surprise I heard the girl on the big blind say "All-In" after me. I had them both covered, and I was only losing to a pair of pocket Queens or 56 at that point so I was feeling pretty confident. When we flipped our cards over there was a round of wows from the table (including the dealer). The girl on the Button had QJ and the one on the BB had Q4. The river was irrelevant and I got a huge pot, eliminating them both.

From then on it seemed like I was on fire! I kept winning pots, some small, some big and I became the chipleader of the tourney! At the end of day 1 I was second in chips, having only 4BBs less than the chipleader. Day 2 seemed to be going pretty well too, but I run out of luck when I lost ATo vs T9o all-in pre-flop. I went out in 4th place which even though I didn't win the tourney felt great!

Another highlight of the PCA was of course the party. As usual, PokerStars went big in the organization of the party for the players. Try to imagine a combination of the following: great food, open bar, cool DJ, party atmosphere, LED lights, glow-sticks, limbo dancers, fire breathers and a parade of a samba band and dancers! The rest of our time at the Atlantis resort was spent at the pool, the water slides, the beach, at restaurants or just hanging out with the Team-Onliners! We had a great time as always and I cannot wait another full year to go back!
